Tropical Indoor-Outdoor Bathroom on Oahu, Hawaii

To achieve this tropical spa-like retreat, we designed a 12’ x 12’ covered addition, into the backyard and looking out to the Kaelepulu stream and magnificent Ko’olaus. This is connected to a new half bath in the house by a sliding glass door and also has a door entering to the back lanai off the primary bedroom. The design features a claw-foot soaking tub, multi-purpose wall mounted sink, and features to assist with aging in place including a curbless shower and numerous grab bars. Design details include 2 skylights, an atrium, a large storage armoire, storage and display niches. Natural basalt, as well as other earthy materials synch with the ‘aina. Whimsical, floral themed MCM lighting in solid brass is the jewelry for the room! Constant air flow and circulation is ensured not only via ceiling fans and open jalousie windows, but using ventilating skylights that filter the hot, humid air in the room, upward and out.
